For a limited time – discover the full Step collection!

Karl Malmvall designed Step around a simple idea: a stepladder is something every home needs, so why should it be stored away when it’s not in use?

With its clean, graphic silhouette and accompanying wall hook, Step can be hung on the wall when the job is done – always within reach and part of the interior.

Function made to be seen!

Change a light bulb. Reach the top shelf. Hang a new piece of art. Then hang the ladder itself back on the wall.

Step turns an everyday necessity into a considered design object, bringing together practical function and a strong graphic expression.

Available in solid stained oak in a selection of colors, each version retains the natural character and visible grain of the wood.

A step by Karl Malmvall

For Karl Malmvall, practical thinking has always been central to design.

When he first met Design House Stockholm founder Anders Färdig, Malmvall had actually come to present a folding chair. But Färdig became more interested in the large package he had brought with him. Inside was the stepladder — originally intended only as an addition to the presentation.

The chair was left behind. The ladder became Step.

Today, its combination of utility and distinctive form remains the essence of the design: an object made to be used, but with no reason to be hidden away.

"I’m not an artist. I want my products to be used, enjoyed, and loved for a long time" – Karl Malmvall

The Step Stepladder first launched in 2007. Since then, it has been named Winner of the Wallpaper Design Award and the ELLE Decoration Swedish Design Award (Furniture of the Year, 2011), and was selected as a Wired Editors' Pick in 2013.
