Product story

A timeless treasure takes flight once again.

The Birds 1967 Mug brings Lisa Larson’s vibrant artistry into your daily ritual, echoing the spirit of the late 1960s—an era of freedom, hope, and fearless creativity. Inspired by her original flock of wooden birds, Birds 1967, revived by Design House Stockholm, these forgotten gems are now reimagined in close collaboration with the Larson family. The Birds 1967 Mug transforms Larson’s expressive patterns into everyday works of art—light, durable, and full of life. Each mug captures the essence of her original sculptures: warmth, joy, and a deep love of craft.

The story begins in Sausalito, California, where a young Lisa Larson spent six formative months in 1967. Studying under renowned ceramicist Peter Voulkos at UC Berkeley, she found herself swept up in the energy of the Flower Power movement and the expressive beauty of American and Mexican folk art. In this creatively charged atmosphere, Larson began painting birds—playful and spontaneous, with no thought of production, just pure inspiration.

Back in Sweden, she collaborated with a retired carpenter who turned her designs into hand-carved wooden sculptures. Painted with gouache in radiant shades unavailable in Sweden at the time, the birds became symbols of peace, individuality, and joy—quietly nesting in her studio for decades.

More than a vessel, these mugs carry a story. A memory revived. A burst of color to awaken your morning or soften your afternoon. Whether cradled in your hands or displayed as a miniature artwork, the Birds 1967 Mug is a tribute to creativity that echoes across generations.
