Lisa Larson’s figurines play with light and shadow, reflecting her deep, intimate connection to yoga. Originally created as personal reminders to practice yoga and master the poses, these raw, unglazed sculptures pay tribute to the strength, stillness, and peace that yoga brings.

Lisa Larson's Yoga sculptures represent her creativity at its most personal level. Four sculptures playing with light and shadows, embodying the urge to truly connect with oneself. For decades, they sat in her studio serving as a gentle reminder: do your yoga!

The Yoga figurines mark a clear departure from Lisa Larson’s more decorative work. 'Her Yoga practice followed her through life,' says Anders Färdig, founder of Design House Stockholm. 'The figurines don’t idealize beauty but celebrate inner balance and strength, treating the body as an expression of mental well-being. We immediately loved them for their sensuality when we saw them in her studio. This is true emotional functionality. She viewed the exercises as a contribution to life's rhythm and balance.

Lisa Larson was one of the first in Sweden to embrace the philosophy of yoga when it arrived in the 1970s. She was an early advocate, inspiring her colleagues at Gustavsberg and even her children to join her practice. Regularly traveling to Stockholm to attend the first yoga classes held in a large apartment living room, Larson faced a challenge upon returning home: how to remember and master poses like the tripod headstand or the boat? Her figurines became an artistic interpretation of that journey, depicting yoga movements through a sculptural language of balance and harmony.

“It’s hard to put into words. It’s about how the body moves naturally. You can be stressed and exhausted, and suddenly you set all your worries aside, lie still, and breathe slowly. Yoga kept me grounded,” said Lisa Larson.
