Eva Schildt launched her design before the present trend for a closer connection with nature took hold. "My degree work was all about integrating form and function of objects with nature, and Gardener’s Sofa is all about truly relating to context. Plants can grow on this trellis-like bench and in time cover it completely. Let culture slowly blend in with nature!"

There is playfulness in the soft forms and slender straightforward structure that is a common theme in Eva Schildt’s design since more than two decades. The starting point for Gardener’s sofa was a strong need to get outdoors regardless of the season. And also, to make outdoor seating with a sculptural presence beyond just mere function. "I was pining for warmer climates back when I studied at Beckmans College of Design in 2001," Eva Schildt remembers, "But you shouldn’t complain about the cold here in Sweden, you have to get out anyway! I designed this sofa along with a table, and even a insulated and waterproof picnic blanket."

Gardener’s sofa requires no maintenance thanks to the double-coated steel work; it will always extend a welcome regardless of the weather. The quiet clean understated Scandinavian look will let the bench almost disappear in any garden, and yet be a clear presence always at hand. While not accommodating people, the sofa will be content to let nature’s plants use it as trellis where to twine all kind of greenery.
