Färg & Blanche

Färg & Blanche

Fredrik Färg and Emma Blanche are all in when it comes to experimental design. Extreme sewing is one of their own specialties where Färg & Blanche since 2010 adapt the role of tailors to dress up furniture in their large workshop just a couple of blocks away from Design House Stockholm's headquarter. They even punch holes in thick wood and metal to sew it together with lush colored fabrics using an array of specialized sewing machines. Another knack of theirs is to glue together leather and soft foam forming mimetic creatures such as the Succession series. Or why not lamps molded on crispbread? Or soft and hard materials woven together like in ARMOUR mon ARMOR, maximalistic furniture inspired by samurai armor. 'The process of making is really important to us, it is a fundamental part of our process as designers,' says Emma Blanche. Fredrik Färg adds that 'we like to push the frontiers of innovation and experiment aiming for the future. At the same time, we are keen to keep old knowledge alive by combining craft and advanced technology.' Although having a background as a cabinetmaker and with a master's degree from the HDK School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, Swedish born Fredrik Färg has always been intrigued by fashion. French-Swedish Emma Blanche grew up in France in an art-infused milieu and studied interior and furniture design at LISAA - L'Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués. Other than working with furniture brands all over the world, they have served as curators as well, not at least with an exhibition with Comme des Garcons in Japan. The design duo latest feat is The Yellow Thread, an installation in Bruxelles celebrating the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
